A view from the past - showing the future

Technical Overview

The technical & functional aspect for SODAS is quite limited and low spec. This because it was mainly constructed of OLD JUNK lying around. But, since its purpose is just to show slow moving particle artwork and digital photos there is not so much CPU / graphics power needed. This project was a "pause" project while saving up money for other crazy projects instead!

All in all it turned out to be a very sexy and creative project, consisting of these technical parts, either found in the trash or bought used or new.

1 x Hansol H520 15 inch TFT Screen

1 x MiniPC from Inside Technology 1997 - 686LCD/S CPU BOARD

1 x 233MHz Pentium II

2 x 32MB RAM

1 x 10GB 2.5" Hitachi Harddrive

1 x EOS VLT100-4000 220V->12V+5V Power Module

1 x SLIM TEAC CD-224E 24x CD-ROM Drive

1 x SLIM 1,4MB Floppy Drive

2 x USB 1.0 Ports

2 x Purple neon lights with 12v inverter

2 x Plexiglass, 5mm thick, size: 38cm by 31cm

Original floor stand lamp with 2 bulbs from a furniture store. Heavily dismantled for my needs!

A lot of custom cables were made

Non-3D functionality, only generic 2D support

Set up for screensaver show or picture slideshow but more functions of course possible

Running Windows XP with SP2 and own tailored menu software selection (based on PS/2 mouse hardware)
