Reclaim Your Enjoyment - Take Control - SOMBC

The history and important timelines

Dec 2005 - Concept was introduced and planned

Jan 2006 - SOMBC was put to use and was part of my SORRD project. Let's watch some telly, shall we?

29 Nov 2008
An epic is over. SOMBC was put to rest, mainly because I bought a new house it it did not fit into my interior design ideas anymore and the fact that it struggled to playback YouTube videos (fullscreen forget it!) and my favourite stream on the internet, called www.demoscene.tv. It just could not cope with FLASH and other internet based stream playback.

Further, I received an ASUS eeePC that could do much better for those streams and not only that, to provide me with a HD playback that actually works on this little Laptop wonder!

The self built mediacenter pc has truly made its worthwhile for almost 3 years by providing me with media and music on-demand whenever I wanted too. I used it to view a lot of movies and tv-series, in fact the log shows 1882 media files was played during almost 3 years of actually flawless operation! Kinda nice to see that the hardware actually managed to cope with the tight design I had put it through!

Yeah, 1882 files during 1063 days of operation would be like 1.8 media files each day - which is pretty close to factuality! I played about two media files each day, one for dinner and one for late night food session!

The SOMBC PC will not be thrown away or dismantled, it will be put to other uses in my house, namely in its own room consisting of a lot of nostalgic computer products like Commodore 64, Amiga, Nintendo, Atari and more. Even tape players, video players, VHS tape collection and such good 'ol things.

The SOMBC PC will be used probably for connecting to Amiga, transferring files and why not record demos with its built in video grabber that supports S-VIDEO and Composite connector inputs? Hmmm, my old demos would look good on my YouTube video account. SOMBC will live on for sure, but not as a media center anymore. It's still a good PC with a wealth of features and hardware in it.. in fact, it supports about everything you can think of regarding media files and media formats.

So long live the SOMBC! You have truly made my tv watching experience a true joy and most pleasent for the 3 years running, and yeah you are the product of a crazy mad man's talents!
