VideoTexter v1.0 (1993)
in Nostalgia | Wednesday, March 08, 2017 | 18:24

I started programming on VideoTexter in 1993 using AMOS Basic v1.3 on a Amiga 500, then later on A1200 until 1997 which seems to be the final release date I could manage to dig up in my Amiga sources and compiled excutables.

I had planned an UNREGISTERED version (probably to impress my friends that I could sell my own software in the early 90's) but also managed to find a compiled REGISTERED version which is presented here and can be downloaded from my website!

It should run fine on Amiga 500 (Kickstart v1.3) with 0.5mb of memory, and seems to run fine on A1200 with Kickstart 3.0/3.1 as well.

This page and software was relased onto my website to celebrate the recently finalized version of the next generation subtitling software programmed by me which is called "Real 80's Classic VideoTexter", available for free, portable for Windows ME and beyond :-).

Original readme from 1997:
--------------------------------

VideoTexter v1.0 Quick Docs:

This is just a quick doc, because its about 4 years I coded it. But I've always wanted to make a nice doc, I just kept pushing the release dates forward and forward. (and the recent buy of PC did not help either)

Videotexter is a subtitle program and its manily purpose are for use with genlocks.

I got the idea of this program, from the subtitles our NorwegianTelevsion Company (NRK) uses on their programs.

Usage:
--------
Just write some text in the editfields and ALWAYS remember to put an asterix (*) at the NEXT line after your last textinput.

If this is not done, you won't get the program running!

There might be a full doc for all the functions, but it's really self-explonary anyway. Just play on the PREFS screen, and press the little "S" beside some of the buttons.

"S" stands for SHOW EFFECT, so you see a quick preview of what you've selected.

A word on advance subtitles:
-----------------------------------
When you press "START!" you'll get a small sound indicating that the program are ready to start the titling.

Press the left mouse button, and the first subtitles should appear on the screen, they wait for 2 seconds (2sec is default, change it in the PREFS).

When the 2 seconds are over, the subtitles disappears. To get the next subtitle, just press the left mousebutton again.

If however, you would like to get a new subtitle BEFORE the 2 seconds have counted down, just press the right mousebutton to advance to the next subtitle. The screen won't go black.

Now, just sit back watch your production, and press mousebuttons when you feel like it :)

When the last subtitles have been reached, you'll hear a small sound indicating that there are no more subtitles. At this point DO NOT PRESS mousebutton until you have unplugged your genlock or whatever.

If you press a mousebutton after this sound, the edit screen would appear, and it wouldn't be nice to get a edit screen over your so precious productions, will it ?

Note about the FONT:
--------------------------
Do NOT under any circumstances delete or replace the BaselCB.font + dir located inside VIDEOTEXTER:Fonts.

IF you do so, something would go bad wrong, the program is specifically designed to work with that font.

If you however (would) replace the font, please make sure you have 4 different sizes of the font, and that the third font is 31 pixels!!

If not, the display would fuck up, or misaligned so anyhow YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED:)

VideoTexter. Probably the last software I ever made in the good old Amiga days.

Funny enough. I missed this kind of software so much that I started working on a PC version in 2012, a whopping 15 years past due after the Amiga version.

The VideoTexter software was heavily used for my splatter horror zombie shortfilm Knut Mollvik - An interview with the artist / A tragedy (KM)" from 1996/1997.

Screenshot gives proof of 30th May 1997. From which point I moved onto PC compatible machines in December 1997. During 1998 I sold most of my Amiga stuff and ended up in the PC world focusing on music for many years. The rest is a big story to tell, in fact, my entire website will indicate that!

It should be noted that the first working version was done in early 1993, it wasn't until 5 years later in 1997 it actually got finished, but never really released to the world... until today, the 7th of March 2017.

Imagine that: 1993-2017 = 24 years in the "making", haha.
