My collection of PC Motherboards

Over the years, all the way back from 1996 (when I got my first PC) until now, you would randomly upgrade your own motherboard. The following collection is my own and consists of my own bought cards, a wealth of random found-in-trash-cards as well as from various PC cabinets that came through my fingers, which means that there will also be cards older than 1996.


These are most likely all working as they where mostly pulled out of working machines or had been tested within the past 20 years by myself for various hardware projects.

I'm documenting these cards online so that I can easily access them during projects or movies that will be made in the future. Some of the cards as of writing this story had already been used in projects (noted) otherwise they are all currently just loose boards on my stock.

There are also several other Motherboards I have, but these are already inside cabinets and are working (3-4pcs). I will try to document these too. At least they are running Windows7, WindowsXP, true MS-DOS 6.22, true MS-DOS 3.30, Windows98SE, Windows 95B, Windows ME - a complete coverage. I might eventually (if boards are available) also rebuilt a Windows NT4 machine, as during early 1997 in a very brief (6 months?) period I ran Rebirth338 and LightWave 4.0 within it. This NT4 build machine did not last long, as my HDD died and I moved over to Windows95B I have vidid memories of (especially that music video of Wheezer by Buddy Holly!).

May 2025 - 1st PC Retro Build Recreation:
Card was used to build a "time period correct" and period-frozen representation of my first PC from 1996 (100Mhz) that was most likely upgraded as much as possible in terms of CPU, RAM, HDD Storage, Audio and Graphics cards during 1996-1997 (1998). Might have used the Motherboard until 1998.

My fully working rebuild now has:
- Pentium w/MMX 233Mhz
- 256MB RAM
- ESS AudioDrive (ES1868) Audio Card (1996)
- Diamond Stealth 3D-2000 with Virge Chipset graphics card (1998)
- KeyTronic E03623ENOKTC (Serial: 19418B0266) AT type, 5 pin DIN style keyboard. FCC ID: CIGE036004 (1996).

I specifically did not add any network cards as that was not something I would ever use back in those days, I only got an external modem and later internal modem to access internet only.

None of the hardware most likely used in 2006-2013 on my real PC was far less powerful than this, but I really wanted to see what games during that time period of my life "could" have looked like if the machine would have been a "million dollar" build, hehe.

My final PC build consists of:
- AMD Radeon R9 290, PCI-E GFX Card, 4GB VRAM
- Intel Core i7 @ xxxGHz CPU
- 4GB Memory RAM, Max of Win7 32bit
- SATA HDD of 1TB

October 2025 - Rebuild PC = My Music Studio 2000-2004:
This motherboard is the perfect specimen for re-creating the PC I would have back in 2000 until 2004 (when I stopped making music). My current studio at the time (I still have everything!) you can check out here!

I will max out the Motherboard as far as it and Windows XP SP3 will allow me regarding CPU, Memory and Graphics Card. This PC and OS will not be connected to Internet, as there is no much point since its running WinXP, and I want to isolate this PC as just a MIDI station along with all the proper software and DX-plugins I used.

Emagic Logic Audio (MIDI sequencer) v5.51 will be the main sequencer, so that I can ensure to load my old projects just as if it was still 2004 :-)

This machine was built with its intention of beeing a time-period correct true MS-DOS 3.30 machine only with a "Hercules compat MDA 8-bit ISA Monochrome Video Graphics Card for PC XT AT" to ensure TRUE monochrome output for just 3-4 games I remember playing at school. Sound will only be speaker/beeps :-)

My final PC build consists of:
- INTEL PENTIUM w/MMX(tm) tech, BP80503200 - SL23W/2.8V, MALAY - L7450221-0592 - (M) (C) '92'95 @ 200Mhz, 66Mhz FSB
- MS-DOS 3.30

I have also the Expansion Board for this, and dual-slot ISA riser card, documented on my My collection of ISA / PCI / AGP based PC cards - approx 100 pcs! page.

Its very hard to find information about this motherboard online, but from what I have gathered, these boards would be inside Taiwan Asian Clone PC's back in the late 80's and early 90's. It would be inside a typical Desktop Computer, like MiTac MPC series.

June 2025 - 3rd PC Retro Build Recreation:
Card was used to build a "time period" and "period-representation" of my third PC from 2000ish to 2006ish, but features an MAX boosted WindowsXP possible. Meaning max RAM and at least a Pentium 4 @ 3.20Ghz + a beefy Graphics Card to fit.

None of the hardware most likely used in 2000-2006 on my real PC was far less powerful than this, but I really wanted to see what games during that time period of my life "could" have looked like if the machine would have been a "million dollar" build, hehe.

My final PC build consists of:
- ASUS V9999GT/TD/256M/A AGP GFX Card
- Pentium 4 @ 3.20GHz CPU
- 1.5GB Memory RAM
- SATA HDD of 1TB
- Audio was just on-board, I had no other SoundBlaster PCI supported cards left on my stock!

August 2025 - Pre-Retro PC Build Recreation:
This pre-generation of PC, where types of PC's I only encounter probably in my first work-place (1992) or a random PC one of my friends showed me that enabled me to play DOS games.

Allthough the audio card is from 1994 and MS-DOS is 6.22 - its a bit of a "improved" version of those types of PC. It would basically be a beefed-up version to do old-school color graphics gaming at its best - something that I did not do as I had Commodore 64, Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200 during those years.

January 2026:
This motherboard and its case now replaces my old aging MediaServerPC that holds all movies, music and tv-shows downloads all the way back from 2003. Since the cabinet had a multitude of disk trays (8, 10 or so) it was perfect to fill it up with several 2TB, 1TB SATA drives I had on stock, as my old case and motherboard could not take any more disks physically.

The old motherboard (Lenovo IH61M) was added to my list of available motherboards.

All my Retro-based PC's built completely out of trash (stuff I had on my stock) and that I have documented both here in this "Motherboard" post, but also my other post My collection of ISA / PCI / AGP based PC cards - approx 100 pcs! .

The only things that I needed to purchase:
2 x ATX based cheap second-hand Cabinets.

Its a culmination of about 3 months of work, where in the process I installed 325 PC based games that I used to play back in the days (1996-2013) which I have still kept in my Downloads or as physical CD-ROMs.

There is only 1 PC left to build that will be a combination of a motherboard and a "Hercules compat MDA 8-bit ISA Monochrome Video Graphics Card for PC XT AT" that will use either a 8-Bit True ISA slot on any of my older motherboards, or, if one of them supports 8-BIT ISA on the 16-BIT ISA.

Anyway, the aim with this final pre-retro PC build is to achieve an 9-pin video signal output that is MDA/Hercules compatible in order to show the image on my fully working IBM 5151 CRT Monitor from 1983 to simulate 3 games I played on the school PC during my 10th grade in 1990 to 1991 :-)
